Hi! I'm new here. I plan on doing a Let's Play of Bomberman 64, and I want to be as informative as I can. I browsed through the topic about Bomberman Manuals and came across a huge guide on said game. I, however, cannot read Japanese   Could somebody please translate the names of all the basic enemies for me? I know some of them from a booklet I have, but it doesn't include the enemies from Rainbow Palace, nor that strange thing with green hair in White Glacier. Also, I'm not sure if it would be better to use the names that were altered when translated versus the directly-translated ones. Thank you

Hey bro. I haven't done this sort of thing in a while, so hopefully this is up to par:

(Page numbers are given first by the scan number, second by the actual page number)

[Page 8 (16)]

Green Garden

レッド - Red (All of Altair's soldiers are simply named by their colors)
ブルー - Blue
トーテム - Totem
マッシュ - Mash
フレアバード - Flare Bird
クレッグ - Clegg (Kregg? Clay Egg? I'm not really sure. It's definitely an egg thing, though.)

[Page 13 (27)]

Blue Resort

テフテフ - Butterfly
ザ・ガード - Za Guard (I'm not sure what the "Za" means, or how it should be translated. Probably just call them guards.)
ギョッピー - Guppy
プニプニ - Squishy (Nigh-invulnerable floating gel)

[Page 18 (37)]

Red Mountain

ピック - Pick
コーモリン - Bat (It's actually spelled differently; Komorin is the name of the enemy, and Komouri means "bat")
ロック - Rock
レッドソーン - Red Thorn (All this time, I thought they were sparks...)
トロッコ - Truck

[Page 24 (49)]

White Ice (White Glacier)

スノーマン - Snowman
ユキウサギ - Snow Rabbit
ペンペン - PenPen (Penguin)
フリージ - Fridgy (Green "haired" thing)
ユキメ - Snowblind (?)
スノボ戦闘員 - Snowboard Combatant (Snowboard soldier, snowboard fighter, etc.)

[Page 30 (61)]

Black City (Black Fortress)

グリーン - Green
パープル - Purple
ハンター - Hunter (cannon-faced robot)
シーカー - Seeker (UFO robot)
サプライズ - Surprise (jet robot)

[Page 38 (77)]

Rainbow Palace

ハートキング - Heart King
スペードナイト - Spade Knight
ダイヤソルジャー - Diamond Soldier
クラブファイター - Club Fighter
エレ鬼 - Elec Spirit ("Eleki", the pun is lost in translation... Could be "Electric Spirit", "Elec Demon", etc., basically whatever sounds good)

---------

Names that were changed in the US manual:

US version -- Japanese version

Eggy -- Clegg (?)

Blue Fish -- Guppy

Guard -- Guard

Jelly Fish -- Squishy

Fire Spike -- Rock

Stalker Bat -- Bat

Spin Spike -- Red Thorn

Snowflake -- Snowblind (?)

Penguin -- PenPen

Missile Trooper -- Purple

UFO -- Seeker

Dive Mech -- Surprise

Cannon Mech -- Hunter

---------

If anything is unclear, let me know. Also, any possible corrections would be appreciated, as always.

Hope this helps!

And welcome to the board. :peace:

I just realized that there are 2 more enemies I forgot about. The thing that steals the blue diamond on stage 3 of Green Garden, and Mantis's babies. If you can find their names (if they're even mentioned in the guide) I'd greatly appreciate it

The diamond thief is referred to as a "イタズラ小僧" at least twice in the opening paragraph for Green Garden Stage 3 on page 22 (scan 11) of the guide. It seems to roughly translate as "rascal" or "troublemaker". Something along those lines.

I'm not sure about the spiders. It would take some extra searching to find that term... Maybe tomorrow.

By the way, just for reference. Most of the bosses have different names in the Japanese version.

US --> English

Draco : Drago
Leviathan: Levaia
Hades: Spriggan (?)
Mantis: Ripper
Cerberus: Absolute
[???] : Master

The first two bosses are essentially named the same way. The boss' "subtitles" are probably all different as well; I noticed that Mantis' subtitle is "Shining Monster" and Hades' is "Haut's Revenge" (Orion's Revenge; ironically it became "Hot Avenger" in the English version... They changed Haut's name to Orion, so either somebody else translated the boss subtitle afterwards, and didn't know about the name change, literally translating Haut as "hot", or they figured they could play with the word as it was and make a similar phrase). I didn't look through the rest, really at this point I'm just taking note of extra little things that are of no concern.

Thanks again! Sorry if I'm bothering you, but I'm trying to gather as much information as I can.

Speaking of, are there any specific names for the glowing switches, dinosaur heads, and/or warp pads in Green Garden?
