After a quick look, some things that might or might not be helpful (I'm pretty much blind guessing):
1. Possibly it might have to do with D-pad mapping vs. analog stick. Supposedly you should be using the d-pad for the code if you aren't already.
2. After a bit more digging, I got this (no idea if this is correct or not):
"The cheat code is based on the button symbols (X and B), not their internal numerical designation. Therefore, you still need to press the button physically labeled "X" and the button physically labeled "B" on the Sidewinder, in the sequence: Up, X, B, Left.
The internal numbering (Button 4, Button 2) is just how the operating system or drivers identify the button presses and does not affect the game's recognition of the specific button symbols required by the code."
3. On some controllers, A, B, X, and Y are in different places. When I play Steam games, I have to configure Y as X and X as Y on the one I use.
